before and after: living room

Hello Tuesday! It’s the first day of March and after such a beautiful sunny weekend, are you ready to welcome spring into your home?  I plan to work some spring magic to my own condo this month but for today, I thought why not sharing some of my tips on how I turned this builder standard condo into an inviting home for two!

After - Living Room 1

Here comes your typical new build white box without any bells and whistles in the design department but an unattractive flush mount and a central air control unit installed right in the middle of the wall.  On the bright side, this living room has a large window to flood the space with natural light (the roof of the other building isn’t all that bad really) and an efficient / open-concept layout ideal for entertaining.
before - living room

Welcome to the “after” living room outfitted with a stunning chrome + lucite chandelier, a spectacular “floating” coffee table (what a vintage treasure!), and a pair of completely re-imagined garage sale barrel back cane chairs!

After living room 2

The showstopper drapery from Tonic Living (ming dragon in midnight) inspired the classic blue and white palette with warm metal accents.  The black & white in the fabric echoes the graphic rug by Colin and Justin from HomeSense, the pale mustard yellow blooms speak to the shimmery gold in the Romo wallpaper, the streamline and oh-so-comfortable sofa from Sarah Richardson Design hits high mark for elegance, and the large bird print is one of the most talked about items in the room!

After Living Room 3

You all know I love mixing patterns and my general rule is to mingo a variety of large scale and small print fabrics in a coordinating color palette for a dynamic yet cohesive look.  I couldn’t be happier with this sea of blue, white, grey, and gold.

A couple of my absolute favorite pieces in the living room are the pair of vintage chairs and the Art Deco style side table.  Can you believe this super glam side table was originally designed to be a blend bathroom stool?  Tim of Beresford did an amazing job to turn my vision into a reality.

To balance all the drama and patterns, I have put together a sophisticated yet playful gallery wall filled with travel memories and some of my favorite art pieces including the brogue shoe by Alanna Cavanagh, the doggy print by Valerie Davide via Trowbridge Gallery, and the framed coral fan from HomeSense.

Of course that beautiful walnut veneer on the Annex credenza from Gus* Modern is truly a work of art!

Last but not least, a big Thank You to Morgan for your beautiful styling, Donna for capturing the essence of the condo through, and to Style at Home for featuring this top-to-bottom transformation.

Now here is my question for you: are you planning to refresh your home this spring?
